Digital texts like Pinterest, vines, memes, OkCupid and travel blogs are our modern artifacts of human creation and consumption—home to the best and worst of human behaviors. Through class discussions, self-directed exploration, and multimedia scholarship, we will unpack the forces that interrupt our ability to construct and express identity, find intimacy, engage in activism, and lead a connected, healthful existence. By investigating and problematizing the misuse of digital mediums, we will build an informed perspective for creating and consuming digital content in a way that is powerful, innovative, and ethical.
